Problem with dual boot
#1
Sad
Hello Britec mate I have an Asus P2520LA laptop that I previously had a dual boot 7/10 and I have got rid of the 10 and also reinstalled Windows 7 Pro to a new drive to make a dual boot 7 Pro / Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon.
Now after two clean installs of Windows following two disasters with installing Linux ie the Windows was lost and the machine will only boot into Linux there is no option for Windows.
So I have taken to cloning a drive to try again but after two days and I have lost count of how many clean drive and clones I have done now I still cannot get the dual boot to work using the YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxepmtjmilQ or another option that I get which is install Linux alongside Windows (it tells me that the option will appear after installing Linux) without losing any data etc etc

I have tried the method shown in the tutorial and I have even tried going back at the EUFI warning message (am not sure why I am getting that) and selected install Linux alongside Windows and again with the same result.

I feel I am missing something here as I have set my BIOS to USB legacy and the CSM to enable and Secure boot to disabled/off which is about as much as I can do to ensure that machine is working in a legacy BIOS - the BIOS is actually quite vague to be honest but that is what I have done .

So my question is why do I get the EUFI message when I go to install Linux and if I go back I get the install anogside option or go to your tutorial instaructions and follow them because none of the methods I have tried are letting me dual boot - only to Linux??

Now the strange thing is my main desktop I put a Linux disk (I should say I have tried both DVD and stick for the above) and told it it to install and it immediately asked with pictures which partition I wanted to put Linux and it did it and following your EasyBCD part I have a perfect dual boot on that machine which has an Asus motherboard which left me thinking both are Asus machines yet one just will not dual boot Linux.

Any advice or tips mate before I go stir crazy would be really appreciated.

I don't if you try this already

I think is the best way to dual-boot what he is doing putting the Linux bootloader on the root partition

then use easybcd to add Linux to the windows bootloader

Not sure why your finding it hard to dual boot, its pretty easy. Did you try with Secure Boot Disabled?
