maybe we can discuss in on a new thread on the topic
you can feel free to disagree and yes, it would be better if we discussed this in another dedicated thread

What is relevant to the thread is that both of these methods for cleaning the heatsink and fan are not recommended. Both could cause more harm than good. As Compton said, the only proper way to clean a Laptop is to disassemble it. With posted methods, large amounts of dust can be blown into the fan it's self and stop the cooling fan from spinning.

Smirk... I would not power up the Laptop till you replaced the thermal compound. I am not clear on if you cleaned the heatsink or not, but normally the old compound will dry out making it impossible to reassemble the heatsink and it transfer heat like it should.

Well, air needs to be blown into the intake vents too and not just into the exhaust vents; if it still doesn't work, we can always disassemble and clean

With all Due Respect:

I would NEVER just start shooting canned air at the problem for long periods of time, simply because there is a possibility that you could saturate the inside of the computer with the canned air, and you have to realize that when you spray the stuff, and you hold the sprayer down too long, instead of air, you get AIR PLUS any liquid that comes out of the can.

If you have a LITTLE dust in there, that is one thing, but you have to be careful and use this air correctly - Short BLASTS are what you need, but I agree with Compton and Larry - You have to take it apart if it gets to the point that your running hot like this, or you could burn up a hard disk, a power supply, motherboard or a processor - The ONLY way to know for sure is to take it apart and do it right - or it could cause more problems that you will have to fix!

That Canned Air Can cause TROUBLE if not used the right way ;( I know, because I KILLED a keyboard when blowing dust out.

Okay, let us not make this thread the topic of this discussion. Like I said, one needs to be careful and it applies even in the disassembly

Yeah thats what i should do. We should probably close the topic until i can get some thermal compound and clean and reapply the cpu because it'll be a while until i can get that and the tools i need for my HP Compaq 6910p laptop.

For now thanks guys

Please do not argue over what is right and what is wrong, please open a new thread and debate nicely and respect other people at all times.
