Windows Media Player video freezes during playback
#1
I am running a hp dc5700 that has windows 7 home premium 32 bit after upgrading my hard drive and re-installing windows I have a problem with my media player it will freeze the video but continue playing the sound (Please do NOT suggest installing some other player ) I have a codec pack installed that allows play back of about 95% of video media I haven`t had this problem before
my old hard drive was on it`s way started making clickedy ratchet sounds when running some programs
Most videos will play right through but sometimes the same vid that played ten or fifteen min ago will freeze part way through with the sound still playing
I have tried to find wmp 12 download through Microsoft but all I found was refresh package (KB 968211) and when I try to run it I get a message saying this application is not compatible with your version of media player and yes I did check to see if it was an x86 which is 32 bit
Again I do NOT want to install a different player I just want to fix what I have

Try booting to safe mode and running your videos from there. This would rule out any running processes that are causing the freezing.

1. Download the latest video and audio card drivers for your computer.

2. Update all codec packs your using.

3. Try and run some of this fix's on links below

I have updated my codec pack (from microsoft)
I tried turn off/on media player with reboot in between (5 minute wait after both )
First trouble shooter from microsoft (re videos tv ) does not run at all
second trouble shooter says my configuration settings might be incorrect
still at a loss I even tried un-install and re-install codec pack that was first thing I tried
even tried un-install codec pack and replacing with different codec pack

Try and do a clean boot and see if the problem goes away

Tried clean boot did not work but am still puzzled by windows media diagnostics ,after running it again to try and see what it was referring to configuration settings might be incorrect . I have added three png (if I did it right ) one of them says windows media player not available on this windows edition , if this is correct then how do I have windows media player in my list of programs keep in mind this is a clean install of windows 7 home premium on a new hard drive that is less than one month old as of today 3/18/2018 and if this is somehow true how do I add my media player
yeah yeah I know someone will say use a third party player (read this line with sarcasm)
but again I like windows media player like its looks feel and I am used to it kinda like an old friend
Thanks for your time Brian

The Windows media diagnostics only checked if  the player was available on your version of Windows, and it did not find any issues

Did you see if the issue occurs in the Safe mode?

Yes I did check and the problem still exists
It is kinda puzzling why would the diagnostics say media player is not available on this edition of windows when I can open my hard drive and find it (refer to attachments ) and why would it work on my old drive but not after doing a fresh install on this one ?
Its times like this I am greatful for people like you who take time out of your busy schedule to try and assist an idiot like me

Thanks for your time

Make sure Windows 7 has all its updates and patches.

You could also try a repair install
