Windows 10 Video Freezes in Full Screen Mode
#1
Photo
Hi Everyone,

Hope someone give me some advice on this Lenovo Ideapad 320 15IKB only 4 months old...

When the display is set to the recommended resolution of (1920x1080,125% Viewing size)
and I view a video from either Youtube or MPC/Nox/VLC in Fullscreen mode.

The Laptop sometimes displays grey vertical lines across the screen,
there is also a buzzing noise from the audio or HDMI port, and the system is unresponsive..

Sometimes, the display resembles multi colored artifacts with a buzzing noise from the audio or HDMI port, and the system is unresponsive..
Also the system will sometimes freeze, the only option is to hold down the Power button to restart, or sometimes it will
automatically restart, with no BSOD message.

I checked 'Event Viewer'It produces a Code 41 Kernel error...

However, when I adjust the resolution to 1366x768.. So far I have seen no issues in full screen mode.

This display error is very random..it can be 2 minutes during playback,or for example 45 minutes.

If using Windows without using a Media Player or Youtube , I experience no issues....

I have attached 2 images to illustrate this problem...

I have tried..
MemTest
Updated all drivers and BIOS from Lenovo.
HW Monitor (for temperature issues)
App Crash
GPU-Z

Here are the Laptop specs..

Can anyone give me any advice ,what is causing this problem?

Many thanks

Mike

I would like you to install this software called DriverPAck Solution and let it install all the required drivers

I have pasted some specs of your GPU and they claim the GPU can only support MAX 1600x900. This is a entry level GPU and pushing the GPU to 1920x1080 is going above there recommendations. Doing so will result in freezing, and some GPU artifacts on your screen. You answered your own question by saying when you set the resolution to 1366x768 the problem goes away. Saying all that, there could still be a problem with your GPU.

GeForce 920MX 2GB is an Entry-Level Mobile Graphics

Overview
GeForce 920MX 2GB is an Entry-Level Mobile Graphics Card based on the Maxwell Architecture.

Architecture
GeForce 920MX 2GB Features a GPU Codenamed GM108-N16V-GMR which is a First Gen Maxwell GPU and is identical to the GM108-N16S-GM used on GeForce 930M but with the addition of GDDR5 Support.
GM108-N16V-GMR has 3 Compute Units Unlocked and thus offers 384 Shader Processing Units, 24 TMUs and 8 ROPs.

GPU
The Central Unit is Clocked at ????Hz and goes up to ????MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Memory: Speed
The GPU is equipped with fast GDDR5 and Accesses the Frame Buffer through a 64-bit Memory Interface. The Memory Clock Operates at 1125MHz.

Memory: Frame Buffer
The GPU can fill up a Memory Pool of up to 2GB.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 15W, it is suited for very small and small sized laptops.

Performance
Performance Not Known Yet.

System Suggestions

GeForce 920MX 2GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1600x900. We Recommend a Middle-Class Processor and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.

Thanks Bri for your reply...

Is the best workaround for this scenario, to set 'UMA' in the BIOS?

Would this mean that the HD620 is the sole working graphics card in the system?

I hope the Intel HD 620 can support a HD resolution of 1920x1080...

Its unbelievable that Lenovo have supplied a NVidia graphics card, which cannot be used in conjunction
with their screen display which is 1920x1080..

I initially thought it was a hardware issue, LCD Inverter, or a faulty LCD....

Once again..

Many thanks

intel graphics and nvidia graphics installed at a time are not a good idea.

if you you're using nvidia graphics, i would uninstall intel then how to stop automatically downloading intel graphics when using nvidia

Thanks for your reply...

I cant believe Lenovo has produced a Laptop which has included 2 separate GPU's,
one GPU is not compatible with the recommended Display resolution...

Maybe, the system is bringing the NVidia GPU into play, when ANY video is played,
so IF the resolution is set to 1920x1080, as the system recommends, it throws a 'wobbler' when used in 'full screen' mode.

I have tried to view the Desktop etc in 1600x900 mode, not good viewing..

Mike you might be asking to much of the budget GPU. The 920MX is certainly the better GPU out of the two.

Here is some details of that GPU

https://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/2826/geforce-920mx (We recommend the NVIDIA GeForce 920MX for gaming with highest details at resolutions up to, and including, 1280x720.)

Here is another site with comparison of both the chips play games. (use translator to read)

https://www.notebookparajogospesados.com.br/2017/10/intel-hd-620-vs-920mx-comparativo-de.html

BUT these are gaming resolutions and I am sure the laptop should still be able to display at 1920 x 1080p without having issue like yours showed.
There could be a issue with the GPU or a driver issue, is it possible you could try other HD-620 GPU to see if you can display at 1080p?. If it does then there could be a issue with the 920MX GPU.

Maybe try and download the 920MX driver from Lenovo
