Windows 10 search, not showing proper results.
#1
Hi, I hope you can help me sort this.

PROBLEM:
I was searching for solutions that may sort an issue I am having with my windows search. I happened upon one of your videos that I thought I would try. I figured that, by reinstalling windows, it would reset that issue. (THIS is the video I viewed, by the way.) Apparently, however, it has not done so.

When I type to search for an application or file, the search results do not always show what I am looking for, although I am well aware that it exists. I used the Windows Calculator Application, as an example.

EXAMPLE:
Here, I typed "calculator" into the search window.

However, the results did not show the application as an option, even though it is installed and listed on the drop down menu.

What is surprising, though is, this does not occur with all applications. Some it will locate, while others it will not.

SYSTEM SPECIFICATIONS:
Computer: Dell OptiPlex 3020
Processor: Intel Core i5 4570
Motherboard: Dell 0VHWTR
Video Card: AMD Radeon HD 5450, 1 Gig VRAM
RAM: 16 Gigabytes (2 x 8), Dual Channel DDR3

Took some time, but did complete.

It didn't work, though.

Any other ideas? Reformat, reinstall?

Almost 2am here now. I followed the first solution in the video, indexing now. Will check this first thing, when I wake in a few hours.

Thank you all, for your patience in helping me.

Re calculator, have you tried Windows 10 app store? It may be there though I haven't checked as I am writing from an android tap pc. Regards, Jan

Please check this setting, make sure its check-marked and click apply and OK

Still not working?

Try resetting Cortana, open Windows Powershell with Admin rights and copy and paste code below (If you receive an error, close Cortana process and run again)

Code:
Get-AppXPackage -Name Microsoft.Windows.Cortana | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

Also make sure you add the path below to Search Index Options in Control Panel. (Change *username* to your username)

C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\Packages\windows.immersivecontrolpanel_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState

First, my apologies for not replying sooner. My wife's papa passed away. The funeral was yesterday. He was in his late 70's and had been ill for a while. So, it wasn't entirely unexpected, just unwanted.

That was just an example of what the search doesn't find. The calculator application is on my computer and in the drop down list, as well.

Thanks. I am now trying this currently. I had to click "ignore all" at one point, due to too many rejections. But, it seems to be going through the rest of the drive now. I have no idea why that would have been unticked. I certainly didn't do it. And, the search has worked in the past, of course. Just noticed it not working as it should, over the past month or so.

If this doesn't work, I will try the next option on your list.

I truly appreciate all the help you folks have taken time to give me. This has been doing my head in, honestly.

Ahh. I missed this before. C: Drive is being excluded from indexing, even after changing the settings.

Even though I changed the settings to have files indexed on the C: Drive, when I load the Indexing Options window, this is what I see:

.png   Screenshot 2018-04-08 10.27.42.png (Size: 31.64 KB / Downloads: 38)

I don't know why I missed it before. But, now that I see it is excluding the C: Drive, I am unable to get it to include it again. I changed the settings in the C: Drive properties window. The box is still ticked. But, it remains ignored in the Indexing Options window, even after rebooting the computer.

I did not try to index the files yet, due to the length of time it takes to index all drives on the machine. I am thinking that, if I run the indexing process again, as is, it will still ignore the C: Drive?
