Wireless Mouse - Laptop Issues
#1
I have a Toshiba satellite l450-136 that I recently updated with the Spring Update 1803 (17134.48) all went surprisingly well until a couple of days ago I started up and got the dreaded black screen and spinning wheel which I thought I could resolve using the tried and test Microsoft solution that didn't seem to work for my laptop has had the same problem with my desktop PC which involved removing the NVIDIA drivers, restarting and then downloading new NVIDIA drivers and is now working perfectly. However, I didn't have much luck with my laptop and ended up doing a Windows reset which on the face of it worked.

I often use a wireless mouse ( a simple Trust Slim mouse) but when I came to use it windows did not recognise it and there are no drivers for the mouse now as it's so old. I then purchased an inexpensive HP wireless mouse and was assured by the expert in my local PC shop that Windows would see it and do the usual plug and play and download the driver. Nope, it didn't and now I am obsessed with resolving the issue. Can anyone help?

Now, when I try to run Windows Update I get an error code 0x800700006 "There were some problems installing updates, but try again later.etcetc.... " I can't glean much from the MS Windows forum that I completely understand, any ideas?

Many thanks

Perform SFC scan

Click 'Start' > Type cmd in the search field > Right-click the command prompt at the top of the list and select 'Run as Administrator'
Inside the command prompt, type sfc /scannow > Press 'Enter'
4. Reboot and test.

Start
Settings
Update & Security
Left hand pane Windows Update
Right hand side click on 'get help with updates'
Bottom of page, last choice 'What can I do if I am having problems installing updates'
Use Windows update trouble shooter
Yes, thanks but I've done that and I have uninstalled USB drivers and let Windows reinstall them and still nothing!

Look how many USB entries I have after a Windows reset!

No, not a thing and I even ran it again to make sure.

I have uninstalled the USB in Device manager and they have reinstalled everything on reboot

I have run the windows update troubleshooter and any other troubleshooter that was remotely possible to be linked.

I have even used Tweaking.com to see if that would cover all bases and that made no difference.

I am contemplating reinstalling windows but have to ask myself is the trivial issue really worth it? After all is said and done I don't really need to use a wireless mouse, do I?

Try and right click and uninstall the ones with yellow exclamation mark and restart your computer

Sorry, ran it and it made not a difference my wireless mouse is dormant, it is less than hibernating it is a zombie.

Did that one at at time and as a bunch and it came back with even more (see the graphic above)

I am abandoning the mission now as there are no drivers for the HP 200 wireless mouse and I am going to donate it to the Police Office where I volunteer and bung it on their laptop!

Thanks for all your tips but I think this is up to Microsoft to come up with a whole bunch of fixes after the last Spring and Cumulative updates!
I ended up with an extra User Account on both my Laptop and my Tower PC - I am a fan on Win10 but this is stretching my enthusiasm for it right now. Big Grin Big Grin

Here is some info on troubleshooting wireless mouse.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03385353

also you need to install composite driver for that mouse not the HP Driver
