No Display Options/Unable to duplicate screen
#1
Hello, I'm Sully and I'm new here.

This is my problem:

I bought a HP Pavilion last February. When I click >SETTINGS >DISPLAY, the options to duplicate/extend/second screen only do not function. Furthermore this machine is unable to project screen or discover devices. It can not discover other wireless devices.
I have smart phones and other computers that function normally, only this one has this glitch.
I have been ALL through the Microsoft Help pages and virtual no-help system. I took the time to skype with a Microsoft technician. I even allowed them to share control of my computer to see for themselves.... no solutions.

Please let me know if I am the only one with this problem.

Cheers

Press Windows key + P

Do you get:

  • Second screen only
  • Duplicate
  • PC screen only
  • Extend

  1. Press Windows key + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Search for Display Adapters and expand it.
  3. Right click on the display driver and select Uninstall.
  4. Now download the updated drivers from the manufacturer’s website and install it.

Hello again ... thank you all for your suggestions. Brian, I am not at all confident that any driver that I download would be the correct one.
I believe that Intel is the manufacturer so I searched there.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/80939/Graphics-Drivers

I then used theirs site automatic software search section to identify my graphics driver card.
(see: Intel UHD Graphics Control Panel)

To be honest, I haven't the faintest idea what I am doing working with these problems, I haven't any knowledge base.

I thought it best to demonstrate what I am concerned with so I went to one of Brian's Youtube videos and took a screen shot.
This is what my screen should look like, I think. (see: Proper Screen Display)

Why my new HP laptop computer doesn't display a screen with a number one, in the middle, is a mystery to me.

So we assume you are trying to use 2 monitors?
If so have you tested the second monitor by itself on your system?
How and where are you connecting that second monitor?

I apologize for not being clear.

The main issue is this:
When I turned on this laptop for the very first time, going to SETTINGS was a priority. While I was clicking through the menus, I clicked on... SETTINGS >DISPLAY. While there, I noticed that this computer, unlike other windows 10 laptops, doesn't have a BOX that represents my main screen along with the digit one ( 1 ) place in the center of the box.

I don't have that. Is it possible to have that ? That is my issue.

Thank you all for your input.

Below is a screen shot of my computer going to the same settings location. I know in previous versions of Windows you get a settings page that looks like what you are looking for however it looks as if Micro$oft has changed that up. Maybe if you have more than one monitor plugged in you may see the screen you are looking for.
