computer shuts down after 10min of being on
#1
Question
I'm working on a computer that shuts down after 10min of it being on  (problem) so I opened up the case and I found no sighns of fryed components or wires being incorrectly seated but I did see that there's a lot of dust and its plugging up the vents of the computer which I'm assuming is the issue because the owner of the computer said that it started happening not even 2 days ago.

I haven't turned on the pc yet to find out the specs but its a custom build computer with an AMD processer and DDR3 ram its got a narly graphics card that you can knock someone out with (metaphorically speaking lol)

Any input would be awesome

Thanks for the help in advance Smile

Clean out the dust and use a program like Speccy portable to get some readings of CPU temp.

Without further info at this stage we're flying blind.

Blow out that dust and fire that thing up. You want to stress test that computer to rule out anymore overheating issues. Use Speccy as GuiltySpark mentioned to monitor temps and run OCCT to stress your cpu. You can use FurMark to stress the GPU. You always want to monitor both CPU and GPU temps as you go. Do all of this with the case side panel on. If you get no shut downs doing this you have ruled out a overheating problem.

Dust is a computer's worst enemy, heat can't dissipate through dust and it acts like a insulator, that's why temps rise. Blow that shit out, clean all fans...replace fans that are to far gone, replace CPU thermal compound and then check temps, if the customer is a heavy smoker, I have seen that stuff mess hardware up real bad.

Smokers computer

I only like rats... Mice are a bit bland. I wouldn't be surprised if that was a pic from the Britec's computer as often as he cleans out his computers.

I was able to get speccy to run on the computer and the motherboard was at 208 degrees and that's just from pressing the power button to getting to the desktop. It seems like the person that built the computer for the customer didn't have a damn clue what he was doing, just by looking on the inside and going through wires it looks like the motherboard is to tightly screwed on and the other thing I noticed is a 1.50gbps hd is plugged into a 6gbps data terminal oh and the ram is seated on dimm 3 and 4??? Instead of 1 and 2.

Thankyou guys Smile

Well I did the best I could getting the dust out with a couple cans of compressed air and the same problem is still happenng even with one of the side pannels off and the 3 fans are blowing I mean this computer I'm working on has even a liquid cooler for the processor I can't seem to figure out what's going on. The customer said he's only had The computer for about a year and alf a sudden it just started overheating I'm stuck on this one that's for sure
