I had some custom work done remotely a few weeks back by a company and had to leave the remote connection connected for a few days. When I would be working online or doing other things I would notice the blue connecting circle bleeding through beside the cursor every so often,I know this can be caused by the bandwidth strength of the remote connection but I decided to ask during a live chat "Can the remote connection track what i'm doing and examine my files and folders etc. when we're not connected?" Technician replied "It has that capability, but I assure you nothing of that nature is done by this company" but ever since it has left thoughts in the back of my mind I would like to share and get feedback on:
1.)If there was a curious, nosey,or malicious person at an actual company could they really...
a. Watch my actions online?
b. Connect and plunder through my files, folders, programs, etc., while I was offline and PC shut down?
c. Connect and turn on camera (if I had one) or turn on a listening system to eavesdrop?
d. If so,would it be using up my data?
2.)If there were a malicious, blackmailing, underhanded person at a company providing remote services could/would they..
a. Deliberately tamper with/ cause damage to components/hardware/software to benefit company and/or themselves?
b. Deliberately activate a virus, malware, or other system damaging components?
c. Work for a "In the shadows" ring of corruptness" steal and sell personal information for monetary gain?
I know there are honest & legitimate companies that do remote services, these are just thoughts, questions, and brain exercising material. If anyone has answers/info/knowledge or questions of their own please share. siko
