Can we have your system specs? A good way to post your specs would be by following this guide. Perhaps your system is using 2 gigs for other services? More info is needed.

Hi Chris.

Need more info about computer there Chris

There is a number of reasons why this happens.
  • Try resetting Bios to defaults.
  • Check BIOS memory settings.
  • Flash BIOS to the latest update.
  • Compatibility issue with memory. (check compatibility for that memory)
  • Your running 32bit OS and NOT 64bit.
  • Bad memory stick?
Just some basic steps to check.

In essence you've answered your own question Smile When installing 32 bit version Windows will not recognize all memory.  It'd be better if you install the 64bit version and do the BIOS updates as suggested by Britec.
