I have a Windows XP SP3 laptop that contains very important files from some family members but when I try to boot into Windows the computer displays a blue screen with the following text:
"STOP: c0000218 {Registry File Failure}
The registry cannot load the hive (file):
\SystemRoot\System32\Config\SOFTWARE
or its log or alternate
It is corrupt, absent, or not writable.
Beginning dump of physical memory

Contact system administrator or technical support group for further assistance"
If all you need is the files you can remove the drive and mount it on another computer and retrieve the files or you could just boot to a live Linux cd and retrieve the files that way.

Well I had tried that but my computer says that I need to reformat the drive so that I could use it.

I tried that too but the Recovery Console sayed something about that it found one or more unrecoverable problems and I also tried deleting the SOFTWARE folder but it said access denied. Weird thing is that when I boot up the Recovery Console it doesnt ask me for the Windows Installation, I dont know how to fix that
PLEASE HELP!!!

I went to the page and then to the Latest Download but I don't know which one of those if the best of use
