I have a game that I play on my windows 8.1 machine that works fine, but when I install on my Windows 10 machine, it says d3dx9_40.dll is missing from my computer try reinstalling, I have tried a couple of fixes but no luck, anyone have any ideas or advice on how to get this .dll file installed ????

Yeah I thought it may have something to do with my video card, it's an older laptop that does not support 3d capabilities, I figured it may be that, TY for the article
I will try those steps however and see what happens,
It does play other similar games though, I don't know we'll see what happens

Download "
DirectX End-User Runtimes"
Open DirectX with
7Zip by right clicking file and open archive, there is 2 versions x86 or x64.
Choose your version and extract it..
- Jun2010_d3dx9_43_x86.cab
- Jun2010_d3dx9_43_x64.cab
Now extract
'd3dx9_43.dll' from your version and place it in your Cogs game folder
