Upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7
#1
Hi everyone

I had a windows vista pc and a hard drive is missing now. I do have a hard drive which is running win 7. I pluged that hard drive into win vista pc. But its not working, i thought it is simple as the hard drive is running win 7 it should work but i was wrong. So i was wondering if anyone would advice me what i should do to run it .

thank you,
Ben

you may have to set the hard drive to boot first in the bois

Ben you may have a difficult time getting that hard drive with Windows 7 to boot in a different machine. You need to uninstall all of the system drivers from the Windows 7 install before fully booting up in the computer that had Vista. Do you still have the computer that the Windows 7 hard drive was in? If so you need to put that hard drive back into that computer and go in and uninstall all system drivers (ie. Chipset, sound, processor, video, etc). You can do this through device manager. If you do not have the original computer that had the Windows 7 drive then you can try booting into safe mode in the Vista machine and then go in and uninstall all of the system drivers. You then may be able to boot normally but you would have to then install all of the Windows 7 drivers for that mother board and hardware. Hope this makes sense but you may be better off just re-installing Windows on a working drive. You may also have a issue with Windows activation if everything else works. Good luck

hi compton
as i said earlier i have win vista PC but no hard drive. The hard drive i have is running win 7. As adviced i formated the hard drive and put it into the vista PC. i changed the CMOS date and time and on boot option i set it  to hard drive. After that it gives me 2 option startup repair and start windows normally. I did start windows normally and what it did was it said windows starting but it stopped and went back to the same 2 options. What should i do now.
thanks
ben
