Windows Operating System Dilemma
#21
Well to add to this it looks like Microsoft is going to force users of Windows 7 and 8.1 to go their way or the highway starting sometime in October. No more KB updates! They are rolling up all of the kb updates into patches and will be releasing monthly patches. They claim that all Windows 7 and 8.1 users will ultimately be running the same version of 7 or 8.1. The only way to avoid this it seems is to not update at all.

Hi Bill,

I wanted to point out that the things that you said about the updates and the business practices of Microsoft, are not how you think they are

Microsoft's applications are not spyware like you said they are. I would advise you to read their privacy statement please

Are you serious...there are zillions of people around the world who know much more than I do saying the very same thing which is true by the way.

I wouldn't waste my time reading MS lies and BS...here's another article everyone should read.

Thanks Timster for this article...it's already stated because when I click "check for updates" it just keeps checking for updates and after 10 mins no updates so I turn it off. Someone else is running 8.1 now gets the same thing...a coincidence I think not...I had planed to go Linux in 2020 but MS might force my hand sooner.

I am not an advocate for Microsoft but just wanted to point out that the reasons for your dislike for them, are not in accordance with reality

If you don't intend to "waste" your time reading their privacy statement, then that's not exactly Microsoft's problem, is that?

If you and the zillions of others, read the privacy statement, everything will fall into place

Its simple, if you don't like Windows use Linux or Mac. I am not happy the way Microsoft went about collecting data, but its old news now. You have a choice, continue to use Windows or move to Linux or Mac. Apple are not much better and Linux has very little support and is not very user friendly for beginner users, its ok as long as you don't run into problems, that's when the problems start for people, there is very little or no support for these Linux distro, so you got a big learning curve to get things running right.

Linux issues I found to be a pain.
  • Gaming, not great for the modem gamer
  • Apps, if you us Linux apps its OK, but like all old Windows users, we are used to Windows programs and that can be a pain to get them running right.
  • Linux is OK for Old hardware, it did not like my new computer hardware and believe it or not, it run a lot slower on Linux then it did no Windows.
So I would say if you are moving to Linux, make sure you are going their to learn Linux and use its apps and move away from Windows completely, most can't do that.

To end, would I use Windows 10, yeah why not. I will disable what I need and eventually move over completely to Windows 10 when all the bugs are ironed out.

I would have to agree Linux have very little support when it comes driver and community

I am always saying this Linux need Standardization not 500 distros

Microsoft have better driver and  community support, but Microsoft likes to push things on people don,t care if you like or not you don, t want windows 10 we will push it on your system

at end of day everything have down side and up side, I learn in technology the best thing to do is to keep on Smile
