High disk usage

I saw that you have 2 antivirus software ( Avast & Malwarebytes ) and that can cause issues.. Other software that work in real time can also cause issues like this

It is not recommended to have more than one antivirus software running at the same time.. you've however said that the problem persists after the clean boot and so, the cause of this particular issue should be something else

It could be because of some malware as well but then, that's just an assumption.. you may try running a deep  scan with a second opinion scanner like Zemana and see if that finds any malware

you can download the software from https://www.zemana.com/AntiMalwareFree

you may also try the suggestions provided at https://www.tenforums.com/performance-maintenance/13605-100-disk-usage-windows-10-help.html,

Some of the users reported that the problem was resolved after updating the firmware of their SSD devices.. If your primary disk is a solid state drive, you can try that

My neighbor had this same problem and we followed pretty much all the relevant TechNet articles to resolve this but none of them worked for him. I did a defrag of his primary disk too but that didn't help either

We then decided to format his primary disk  and perform a clean install of Windows 10 on his desktop and that finally resolved it

I would suggest a clean install of Windows. If you need help with that, let me know

ok Malwarebytes pro is not an antivirus it's a real time malware scanner that work along side your antivirus

hope you don't mind the correction Partha Smile

No problems, Compton but please understand that the premium version works in real time and as an experienced user, I do not recommend the use of multiple antivirus or antimalware software that work in real time

I am not just saying this from personal experience but I've seen blogs from reputed companies where the authors state that it's actually a bad idea to have multiple antivirus software running at the same time, like the one below

https://blogs.microsoft.com/cybertrust/2014/08/05/can-i-run-more-than-one-antivirus-program/

Antivirus software are basically software designed to detect all kinds of malware and not just viruses alone. This is why some of the makers of security software prefer using the term antimalware instead

If however it's the free version of Malwarebytes which does not have the real-time protection module, keeping that alongside any other antivirus software is absolutely fine

The only reason AV vendors say these things is because of slow down issues (possibly if you have a low spec system) but the majority work well even in real time with Anti-malware products such as MBAM and the like.

The fact that MS said that in their blog is a bit hypocritical as originally MSE (now Defender) and Windows Defender (anti-spyware product originally) worked side by side in real time with no issues.

But it is entirely a users preference at the end of the day.

Best course of protection is always the user(s) themselves.

I do not think it's hypocritical of Microsoft in any way. Like you said, Windows Defender was originally designed to detect and remove only spyware whereas Microsoft Security Essentials was a fully fledged antimalware

..and plus, MSE was designed to disable Windows Defender automatically on Vista and Windows 7 and uninstall it from XP

Check the article at https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/protect/forum/mse-protect_start/windows-defender-and-microsoft-security-essentials/5309cb8d-02e1-40e8-974f-0dcedb9ab9fd?auth=1

The author clearly states that if Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Defender are both running in the event that MSE does not disable Windows Defender, it can lead to performance degradation and other issues
