C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\Packages\windows.immersivecontrolpanel_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState

Sorry for your loss. I said answer above, think you missed it. its very common for people to exclude or have a missing path. In your case you excluded it. You can simply add the path in like above.

First, thank you for your condolences. Truly appreciated. I was very close to him and it has me all torn up at the moment.

Anyway, I opened Powershell and did as you instructed. It was fine, and completed without errors.

However, I then opened the Indexing Options window, and attempted to follow and add the path you gave me:

"C:\Users\Mini Tower\AppData\Local\Packages\windows.immersivecontrolpanel_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState"

When I opened "C:\Users\Mini Tower", "AppData" is not listed.

This is doing my head in. I am very sorry for all this trouble. I didn't realize it would cause this much of an issue. Perhaps, I should just create another user, if that will sort this? Or, should I just do a complete reformat, reinstall of Windows 10? Seems like, maybe that would be the simplest solution?

Well, that sorted the issue, at least. So, it is only affecting that profile.

I spoke too soon.

That is not a good sign, have you messed with services at all? You going to need to do some service debugging to find this issue.
I would try a clean boot first.

Here is something I found they may help Window Service Start Failure Message

Before a Windows Service can run, it has to be "installed" first using installutil. Example:

C:\installutil -i c:\path\to\project\debug\service.exe

Then you can open up the list of Services to start it.

a. Right click 'My Computer'.
b. Click on 'Manage'.
c. Open up 'Services and Applications'.
d. Click on 'Services'.
e. Find your service in the list and right-click on it.
f.  Click on 'Start'.

That's what I can't get my head around. I haven't changed a thing, not one setting. I've had zero need to touch any part of services.

I truly appreciate all the effort you (collective) have put into trying to help me. But, this computer is just draining my time with this problem. I think, reformatting it and a doing a clean install is probably my best bet at this point.

Originally, this was a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit computer. I got the "free" Windows 10 upgrade when it became available.

It will be a bit of a pain, not to mention somewhat time consuming, to install my software / applications again. But, a fair amount of my files and such are on clouds. So, I will just do that by this weekend. After all, Lord knows, it couldn't possibly be a simple fix for me, to get this machine in order.

In fact, I may return to the US this summer. If I do, I will do some serious shopping for parts, and build a new computer, in a full tower case, from ground, up. I may even go back to UBUNTU. Windows gets worse with every release.

This problem sometimes happens after a update or upgrade from another operating system. Sometimes there comes a time to backup your data and fresh install.
